  • La Sicilia: Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, Nov 2003

"Sublime" Beethoven with Iorio and Kovacevich

Extraordinary success at the Politeama (Theatre) for the concert of the two artists

"On Friday evening at the Politeama Theatre (Palermo) we witnessed a great evening of music and an exceptional performance by the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana An outstanding young conductor, Damian Iorio, inspired the orchestra in one of the best performances that we have ever heard. In the Beethoven Concerto Damian Iorios energetic conducting was heroic and even exhilarating. The characteristics (of Dvoraks 9th Symphony) were vividly brought out by Iorio, who gave a remarkable reading of the score and showed an exceptional respect for the composers intentions. There was very enthusiastic applause from the public for both conductor and orchestra."

Giornale di Sicilia: Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana,
    Nov 2003

"In the piano concerto (Beethoven no. 5) Iorio was attentive and ready to take part in the dialogue (with the soloist) ... In the imposing Symphony by Dvorak in the second half, Iorio brought to the fore the rhythmical energy and the driving dynamics... and achieved an overall cohesion of ensemble much appreciated by the audience."

Il Tempo: Orchestra Regionale di Roma e del Lazio.
    Auditorio di Roma, Feb 2004

"The young conductor's performance (of the Haydn Symphony) was especially convincing in its beauty of sound and expressiveness."

    Akkuaria: Britten - Albert Herring.
    Teatro Rendano, Cosenza, Dec 2004

The main characteristics which emerged from the performance on 19th November 2004 were clarity of sound, transparent performance, essential and well balanced design, an excellent cast, highly professional in the mastering of the staging, attentive and sensible direction respectful of the composers and the periods style.

...the conductor Damian Iorio took charge of the score with great decisiveness, charisma and technical maturity, following with great precision not only the phrasing of the singers but also the structure of the music, the shades of timbre and the underpinning rhythm. All the members of the cast performed their difficult roles with intelligent lyrisicm, excellent vocal range and spontaneity, adapting with great effectiveness to the very detailed shading of the dialogue. The orchestra, made up of principal players as required by a chamber opera, performed with cohesion and underlined the transparency of a score which develops the dramatic tension with constant formal freedom.

    Amadeus: Britten - Albert Herring.
    Teatro Rendano, Cosenza, Dec 2004

"Damian Iorio conducted the Philharmonia Mediterranea with impressive vitality and precision."

    Manifesto: Britten - Curlew River.
    Teatro Verdi, Pisa, Nov 2005

"Damian Iorio conducts the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano with a participation of musicians and singers that renders the occasion truly rare."

L'Eco di Bergamo: Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Jan 2006

"The Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, under the lively and confident direction of the imaginative and eclectic Damian Iorio, were able to realize in an inaffable way the symphonic development and the dynamism of the Mozartian counterpoint, creating a fil rouge with the Beethoven Symphony (no. 8) that followed in the second half... Iorio phrased the strings elegantly, delicately articulated the wind, emphasized the brass well, and enriched everything with thrilling bursts of energy and attention to detail... The performance seduced the public with its clear and refined sonorities and for its sense of proportion, and received a long and enthusiastic applause."
